Have you ever wanted to try out a new version of a web application, be it a content management system (such as WordPress or Drupal), an e-commerce site (e.g. Magento), or a customer relationship management system? Setting these up can be a big undertaking, which sometimes isn’t worth the effort when it comes to “just playing around.”

The Pro’s and Con’s of Bitnami Stacks

There are a couple of great things about the way Bitnami handles these “stacks,” including the following:

All the components within the stacks are pre-configured to work together, which means no more editing config files to make sure Apache talks to PHP which talks to MySQL.

Uninstallation is just as easy… the uninstall script will remove any trace that the application was ever there.

They’re installable by a non-root user, so all you need to do is point it to a place in your home directory.

They don’t install services to /etc/init.d/, so you start and stop them as needed with a simple command.

On the other hand, there are also some things to keep in mind when installing Bitnami stacks:

Each installation is self-contained, so if for example you install the Drupal stack, the Joomla stack, and the WordPress stack to do a CMS comparison, you’ll have three different installations of Apache, MySQL, and PHP using disk space and RAM (we’ll show you how to avoid this below)

They don’t install services to /etc/init.d/, so you’re required to start and stop these manually.

Since they’re installable by a non-root user, some of the normal protection that having root-level permissions provides won’t be in place.

There doesn’t appear to be an easy way to upgrade these stacks to new versions… even Bitnami recommends you back-up your data, install the updated stack, and restore.

But again, these are really well suited for evaluation purposes (not to use in production), so with that in mind, let’s install one.

Installing the Base Platform

I’m going to create a test install of SugarCRM, a customer relationship management system because, well, I’ve always wanted to try it out. But I might want to install some other similar applications as well, so instead of going straight for the SugarCRM stack, let’s see if it’s available as a “module”. Sure enough, the SugarCRM page shows it’s available as a module, and requires Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Add Linux and what does it spell: LAMP! So let’s start by grabbing Bitnami’s LAMP stack from the left-hand menu. Once you download these files, you’ll need to make them executable. The following command will do the trick:

chmod

+x bitnami-lampstack-5.3.17-

Note we don’t need to be root to do this, since we’ll be installing it in our home directory. Now, run the installer by typing

1. The Welcome Screen

2. Select Components (we don’t particularly care about these, but it doesn’t hurt to leave them selected)

3. The directory where you want to install everything.

4. An admin (root) password for the MySQL server (don’t confuse this with “root” on your machine, this is just for the MySQL install Bitnami is performing)

5. A confirmation screen that you’re ready to install.

Installing the SugarCRM Module

Installing the SugarCRM module is as simple as mimicking the steps above, as follows:

1. Download the SugarCRM module from Bitnami. Make sure you grab the module, and not the whole stack (which includes LAMP, but we already have that).

2. Run chmod to make the installer executable.

3. Run the installer (mine was called “bitnami-sugarcrm-6.5.5-0-module-linux-x64-installer.bin”)

The installer will show the following screens, and ask you for some details:

1. The Welcome Screen

2. The directory where you installed the LAMP stack above.

3. A username, real name, and e-mail address for the first user, as well as the root MySQL password you set.

4. Whether you want to configure mail support or not (for notifications)

5. The install confirmation screen.

Once the installer is done, go back to your landing page, and select the “Applications” link. Presto, SugarCRM is there, waiting for you to log in with the username you specified (note: your password will be the MySQL root password to start). Once you install SugarCRM, take a look at all the great modules Bitnami has to offer… you can install them all together into the same stack.

What is WebService?

Web Services is the mechanism or the medium of communication through which two applications / machines will exchange the data irrespective of their underline architecture and the technology.

What is Web Service Testing?

Web Services Testing is a type of software testing that validates Web services. The purpose of Web Services Testing is to check the functionality, reliability, performance, and security of an API(Application Program Interface). Web Service Testing is similar to unit testing in some cases. You can test a Webservice manually or create your own automation code or use an off-the shelf automation tool like Postman.

Why is WebService Needed?

In general, software applications are developed to be consumed by the human beings, where a person sends a request to a software service which in-turn returns a response in human readable format.

In the modern era of technology if you want to build a software application you don’t need to build each and everything from scratch. There are lots of readymade services available which you can plug into your application and you can start providing those services in your application.

For example you want to display weather forecast information you don’t need to collect, process and render the data in your application. You can buy the services from the people who already well-established in processing and publishing such kind of data.

Web services allow us to do these kind of implementations.

This WebService can be called by a Software Application using SOAP or HTTP protocol.

Web Service Protocols

Web Services can be implemented in different ways, but the following two are the popular implementations approaches.

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)

REST (Representational State Transfer architecture)

SOAP

SOAP is a standard protocol defined by the W3C Standard for sending and receiving web service requests and responses.

SOAP uses the XML format to send and receive the request and hence the data is platform independent data. SOAP messages are exchanged between the provider applications and receiving application within the SOAP envelops.

REST

REST means REpresentational State Transfer; it is an architecture that generally runs over HTTP. The REST style emphasizes the interactions between clients and services, which are enhanced by having a limited number of operations. REST is an alternative to SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and instead of using XML for request REST uses simple URL in some cases. Unlike SOAP, RESTFUL applications uses HTTP build in headers to carry meta-information.

There are various code that REST use to determine whether user has access to API or not like code 200 or 201 indicates successful interaction with response body while 400 indicates a bad request or the request URI does not match the APIs in the system. All API request parameters and method parameters can be sent via either POST or GET variables.

Rest API supports both XML and JSON format for WebServices API Testing. It is usually preferred for Mobile and web apps as it makes app work faster and smoother

WSDL

WSDL (Web Services Description Language) is an XML based language which will be used to describe the services offered by a web service.

WSDL describes all the operations offered by the particular web service in the XML format. It also defines how the services can be called, i.e what input value we have to provide and what will be the format of the response it is going to generate for each kind of service.

Suppose we want to test web service which provides Currency Conversion Facility. It will the current conversion rates between the different countries currency. This service we can use in our applications to convert the values from one currency to the other currency.

Step 5: Using a tool or writing code to send request and validate the response

PART 1) WebService Testing Using Apache Axis2 API (Java).

Generally web service takes the request and sends the response in the XML format.

Apache Axis2 API project is a Java implementation API, which will be used to create the Web services for both server side (service provider) and client side (service consumer).

Axis2 is capable of sending SOAP messages and Receives & Processes the SOAP messages. We can write a small Java program using the API to create the web service. Axis2 will generate the WSDL from Java program which will be used to communicate the services offered by the web service. We can use the same Axis2 to generate the Java class (stub) from WSDL file which we can use as a client program to generate the web service request, to send the request to the service end point and to process the response.

Basically we will create a simple Java program in which we will instantiate the stub class.

Using the stub we will invoke the request method by passing all the required information.

Stub program will convert that request into XML request format and sends it the service end point which will read the request and processes the request and sends the response in XML format.

The XML response will be converted into Java class by stub and returned to the actual program.

Let’s look at above steps in detail

Step b) Create a folder to keep all the generated artifacts

Step c) Open the command prompt and navigate to the folder structure where you want to generate the artifacts and Run the following command which will generate the stubs

Step d) Once the command is successfully run, you will see the folder with required files.

Step e)In the next step of this Web Services Testing tutorial, we have to create the client program, through which we will send the actual request using the generated stubs. Open the eclipse and create the new Java project and select the folder which we have created above.

Step f) Add all the axis2 related jars to project build path, which will be there in lib folder of the axis2 software folder

Step g) Create a new Java class (ex : Client.Java) and instantiate stub object. Using the stub object we can call all the supported methods of the particular WebService.

Iphone Not Sending Text Messages? Try Out These Fixes

It’s very annoying if your iPhone is not sending text messages, thankfully, the solutions to fix this problem are easy and quick.

You may not be able to send regular text messages better known as SMS from your iPhone and see red  due to an unusual bug or temporary glitches. Before you contact your carrier or visit an Apple Store, look at all these straightforward fixes to this issue. By the end, you will get the answer for ‘why is my iPhone not sending text messages?’

First of all, make sure you are allowed to send SMS from your carrier’s end. If you are a prepaid user, ensure you have enough balance. And if you are on a postpaid plan, make sure there are no outstanding bills or limitations on your account.

Solution #1. Restart Your iPhone

This is a simple yet effective solution to fix iPhone won’t send messages issue on your iPhone. Turn off your device, and after one minute, turn it back ON.

Solution #2. Quit and Reopen the Messages App

On iPhone with Home Button, double press it to see all open apps. On iPhone without Home Button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause.

Now, drag the Messages app card to top to force quit it. You may also close other running apps. Reopen the Messages app and try sending a text messages.

Solution #3. Check Phone Number of the Recipient

Solution #5. Check What You Are Sending in Text Message is Supported

Every mobile network provider does not support MMS. It may also be turned off in your iPhone settings. Therefore, if you are sending a photo, video, or anything other than text (and maybe emojis), it will fail, and you will see red

Solution #6. Make Sure You Have Turned ON SMS

It is a good idea to ensure that your iPhone can send a message as a regular text message when iMessage isn’t available. To turn this on, open Settings app → Messages → switch on the toggle for Send as SMS.

Not only text messages, but several applications and services are affected if your iPhone is set to the wrong time zone. To make sure that your phone has the correct time and date, open Settings app → General → Date & Time → turn on the toggle for Set Automatically.

Solution #8. Turn Off Text Message Forwarding

SMS Forwarding or SMS Relay is a part of the continuity feature introduced with iOS 8. This is handy, but in rare cases, it may cause interference with text messages sent from your iPhone. Hence, turn off Text Message Forwarding.

Step #1. Launch Settings app and tap on Messages.

Step #2. Tap on Text Message Forwarding and turn the toggle off for your other Apple devices you see here.

Step #3. Reboot your iPhone. Once your iPhone restarts, launch the Messages app and start sending SMS as usual.

Once you can send messages, try turning Text Message Forwarding back on, if this feature is useful for you.

Step #1. Launch Settings app and tap on Cellular.

Step #2. Tap on LTE → Next up, either tap on Data Only or Off.

Step #3. Once you have gone through the process, reboot your device.

Solution #10. Delete Old Messages

Delete all the old messages. It may sound a bit crazy, but it has the potential to solve iPhone not sending messages issue. Tons of unnecessary conversations might be the roadblocks in sending new ones.

Step #1. Launch Messages app → Tap on three dots and then tap on Select Messages.

You may also just swipe down with two fingers to select message conversations.

Step #2. After you select all conversations, tap on Delete.

Software updates fix bugs and also introduce new features. You must always run the latest iOS version on your iPhone.

Launch Settings app → General → Software Update. If you see a pending software update, tap Download and Install.

Solution #12. Reset Network Settings

When you reset your iPhone’s network settings, your data is not erased. However, Wi-Fi passwords and other network settings are erased. This is a good method to fix the issue of text message failure on the iPhone.

Solution #13. Restore Your iPhone

If all the solutions mentioned above fail to fix the problem, you should restore your iPhone as new. Backup your device first before restoring it as all your media and data will be removed.

Thankfully, a little-known feature contained within the excellent Google Chrome web browser provides a simple solution, and it allows for easy monitoring of how much data is consumed in a given web browsing session.Though there are many reasons you may want to do this, one of the best practical uses of this function is to keep an eye on cellular bandwidth usage while using the web through an iOS Wi-Fi Hotspot or with Android tethering . Because it makes it extremely easy to know how much data you’re using, you’ll find it as an excellent tool to help stay within your allotted data plan limits, at least when using the web.

This will instantly start keeping track of data that has been sent and received through the Chrome browser:

Quit out of Chrome if it’s open already, then relaunch it to start a fresh browsing session (not technically necessary, but it makes this much easier)

Press Command+L to jump to the location bar and enter the following exactly:

Bandwidth monitoring begins immediately, hit “Stop” to end bandwidth usage monitoring, or hit “Reset” to reset the data usage counter back to zero

The screen shots are taken on a Mac, but this actually works in all versions of Chrome, whether for Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Windows, or Linux.

If you didn’t relaunch Chrome, or you just want to start over, hit the “Reset” button to push the counter back to zero.

The data transfer is reported in kilobytes (kb), and if that’s not human readable enough for you, then just use a simple calculation to turn the number into megabytes (mb):

Mac users will find it super easy to perform the MB data conversion by hitting Command+Spacebar to summon Spotlight, then entering the simple formula and letting Spotlight’s calculator functions do the math for you:

There is little impact to leaving this running in Chrome, and it is highly recommended to leave it actively counting data while using Personal Hotspot or any other type of cellular internet tethering. With how fast LTE is yet how restricted data plans are, it’s remarkably easy to go over the allotted limits and wind up with some pretty hefty surcharges, so keep an eye on your cell data use and don’t get surprised at the end of the month with a big bill from your cell provider.
